Some must-know rules of canvas size

As Oncreek has said before, the size of canvas will determine whether it becomes a masterpiece or a total failure. And to avoid those failures, there are some basic rules you need to know.

  • Rule 1: The artwork needs to be taken up around 60-75% of your uncovered space.

For example, you have a wall which is 8.5 feet tall and 5.5 feet wide; let’s multiply these measurements with 0.6 and 0.75. The optimal height will be between 5.1 and 6.375 feet, and the width will be between 3.3 and 4.125 feet.

  • Rule 2: The canvas size should be between ⅔ and ¾ of the furniture’s width.

In case you want to hang your artwork over other furniture, just remember the ⅔ – ¾ rule. To illustrate, if your bed is 6.5 feet, take 6.5 multiply by 0.6 and 0.75. The results you have will be 3.9 and 4.875, which are the sizes that you need.
